Club Disappointment At Evening Post |

Swansea City have expressed their disappointment at the Evening Post for carrying a story tonight that claimed the club were employing bouncers to control crowds at the Vetch. In a statement released from the Vetch this afternoon, the club stated that at no time did they mention bouncers and that the paper was asked specifically not to refer to the stewards as such. The statement in full reads: "Swansea City Football Club would like to apologise to everyone connected with the club for the sensational headline, ‘Bouncers on North Bank’ in today’s edition of the Evening Post. At no time was the the word ‘bouncer’ used in a press briefing with the Post yesterday and has never been used to descibe the clubs excellent team of stewards or the extra match stewards that will be used at future games. It is extremely disappointing that the word ‘bouncer’ was used as this gives a completely false image of clubs matchday stewards who are all trained personnel. Information was given to a Evening Post journalist on Tuesday for an article on the reduction in capacity for the Macclesfield game and for the announcement that the game against Huddersfield was to be an all ticket game. A club spokesperson said this lunchtime, "The Post were specifically asked not to refer to the clubs stewards as bouncers. We were horrified when we saw the headline on today’s paper." The club immediatly contacted the editorial staff at the Post, pointing out the error and requesting that changes were made for the second edition. The Post were unable to accomodate. However, we have asked that a prominant apology be published in tomorrow’s paper. The club would also like to apologise to season ticket holders as important information regarding tickets for the Huddersfield game was missed out completly from the Evening Post article." It’s very easy to state it but headlines make news and "Bouncers at the Vetch" makes more people read than "Huddersfield Game All Ticket" but at the same time it gives an incorrect impression of what the original press release said and also implies that fans will be locked out unless they behave. Still – that’s journalists for you 😉 |
