Hands, Knees And…..

Seven wins and a freedom of expression that has seen a breath of fresh air blowing through the Vetch. Despite the solid start there has of course been one overriding cloud that does not seem to go away and that is of injuries. It has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous as you would have thought that Mr Bump was in charge of training during the week.

Yes you can look at some that have been the result of virtual assaults by the opposition and we can look forward shortly to the return of Martinez. The worrying situation for me revolves around those who have picked up injuries in training or a general knock during a match. Thomas, Hylton, Jones, Coates all in recent weeks we have been told are nearly ready for 1st team action or the injury was not as serious as first thought, yet here we are still no further forward.

I do not want to disparage them in their efforts to get fit (only the club know the full extent of any injury). Thomas is a case for bemusement as he was ready and then mysteriously went from an ankle injury to a toe injury.

The worrying ones for me are Jones and Hylton, we have heard precious little of their progress and its about time someone stood up and informed us what is happening.

Every squad can expect 3/4 injuries at a given time but I am afraid to say 9 is careless especially as some have been self inflicted.

Of course the running joke of Smudger rumbles on, however as someone once sang “That joke isn’t funny anymore” and when I read today that his ankle is still not right and is unlikely to be for the remainder of the season, I am afraid the time must have arrived to say I am sorry but we cannot afford wages to someone who cannot kick a football properly.

Maylett and Martinez are of course essential for us and it is now important to get these two fully fit and quickly. Both have been missed and the side has started to look a little jaded as those who have stepped forward are indeed in need of a rest themselves now, as they have covered admirably for those missing.

October and November whilst not winning any side a league or promotion ,these months go a long way to pointing a side in the direction it will take for the remainder of the season.

We cannot go into the middle of Oct with 9 injuries , lets get things sorted I for one am sick of watching an episode of Casualty week in week out
