Programme – Oxford

So the FA Cup match wasn’t a classic but the fact is we won it – and you wonder even more what we would do without Lee Trundle. Four goals in two games and two wins for the Swans – keep that up Lee. Of course by now we will know what the 4th round challenge will be for us – personally I would like a home draw – not bothered who it is against but Premiership opposition would be nice. More importantly and I am sure I saw a smile on the face of our directors on Saturday when they realised that the balance sheet was ร‚ยฃ50,000 better off after the win. Cup runs are invaluable to clubs at our level and long may ours continue.

Of course though the FA Cup now takes a back seat as we entertain league leaders Oxford to the Vetch for the game that should have been played last Saturday. We need to keep accumulating points like we did against Yeovil to maintain our promotion challenge and this will be one tough encounter for us. I was at the Kassam Stadium (strange place that – be nice when it’s finished!) earlier in the season and I still don’t think that I can believe the last five minutes that saw us concede three goals – two of them would have been comical had they not been against us. Oxford of course have only lost one league game all season but why shouldn’t we be the second side to beat them? I remember a cracking match here against them last season which we deservedly won and I bet there wouldn’t be too many supporters here tonight who wouldn’t settle for the same again.

Much talk of course as well at the moment of Richard Duffy and Portsmouth. Whether we will see Richard leave or not still remains to be seen but I still can’t help thinking that it’s best for him to remain at Swansea rather than sitting, most likely, in Portsmouth’s reserves for the rest of the season. Duffy has the makings of a great player but he isn’t there yet and if he does go then I hope he does make a success of it but maybe it is one of those occasions to forget any money being talked and do what is right for him and his future development?

Nice to see attendances back on the up again at the Vetch. I don’t think it is co-incidence that the last two games have produced wins with big crowds behind the team. The noise that can be generated at the Vetch can be worth an extra man and maybe tonight is time to really crank up the volume and let Oxford know what a crowd is really about (and of course a four sided ground!)

Finally tonight I go back to mentioning the FA Cup once more and as Wales sole representatives left in the competition (sorry to anyone from Cardiff reading but it had to be mentioned) if we have got a home draw then lets let the people know that they have arrived in Wales and really give them the Welsh treatment in the next round to ensure maximum exposure on television (which of course means more money in the coffers!) but I do think we should stop short of you know what to sheep in the centre circle!!!

And finally to the guy who e-mailed me and asked if I could write the next programme article in Welsh the answer isรขโ‚ฌยฆรขโ‚ฌยฆรขโ‚ฌยฆNO I CAN’T but just for you I have written it in Welsh/English!

Oh Lord Lee Trundle!
