The Arguments FOR Brian Flynn

It’s true to say that the appointment and reign of Brian Flynn has caused some serious debate between the two ‘factions’ as to whether he is the right man to take the club forward or not. Around a third of the internet fanbase believe that he is not the man to take us forward and that the club has progressed little in his time at the club. Recent performances are cited as the reason for this argument. However, around twice as many fans believe that we have the right man in the helm and that expectations were too high this season of a club that, at the end of it, only escaped relegation on the last day of the season.

In the interests of balanced argument, we produce here a pretty lengthy message board posts from the last two days arguing over the fact that the posters believe that Brian Flynn is the man for the job. I should point out that this is not the only post of a similar nature before I get accused of all sorts of things in forcing people to believe my own thoughts.

I’ve written quite a few posts supporting the management over the last couple of months, my opinion is still holding, even though I have also stated I am not necessarily Pro Flynn, I am Pro Swansea though. We have had half a season, where survival was the priority. We have to thank Flynn who came in and had to completely rebuild a team, almost from scratch, starting in mid season, which is no mean feat and we survived. In the summer rebuilding properly started, he brought in players a lot of posters were sure were not going to sign, he also brought in experienced players with whom he had enjoyed success with in the past, the rest, due financial restrictions were existing players, some of whom he may have wanted others he may have had to accept to enable us to have back up in certain areas. The experienced players he brought in, on the whole were disappointing, either through injury or unable to re-capture previous form. We lost influential players like Martinez, who may never be the same, and Smudger at the start of the season. Some players were brought in like Wilson and Nardiello, although Wilson got slated a lot, during this period we were still doing well. Our form slipped and we have dropped, performances have suffered. Its true our team needs more experienced players, we need more strength in the team to help the players we have. The tactics of 4-3-3 is a bug bear with a lot of people, as an exile I don’t see all the games and don’t see first hand what happens. Tottenham beat Newcastle sunday, playing 4-3-3, they had 3 centre forward playing, we don’t play with 3 centre forwards, we play with two, and 3 in midfield and 1 wide player. Perhaps people have a point that Flynn doesn’t change this enough, especially in a game, against Southend for example, Maylett could have come on and Roberts moved over to the left, this could have been a better option, but in the end this is pure speculation and could have ended in disasterous results. In the end of the day opinion on tactics don’t mean you’re right, it is just opinion. Fans have the right to be disapointed and the right to express their opinions, but I do disagree with the rising of a crusade against a manager who’s not had the time to re-structure from the beginning. This season is the first full season, the results have been mixed, I believe the prospects with the team we have now is better than the teams we have over recent years. We need more re-building, which in the current financial market means summer time free transfers, we all know what type of players we need to turn our team into a truely championship contending team, I hope we get these this summer. As far as Flynn’s optimistic comments, what do you expect him to say. We are still re-building It takes time Stability is needed I believe, only an opinion, we are heading in the right direction. If we fail to get the right players in the summer and don’t progress then my opinion next year will change. Flynn does not control the purse strings remember and I would hope he would not get second best players because the first choices are not available at the time, we sign a player, we have to pay him, so I respect his refusal to buy a player to placate the baying mob. If the target players team does not want to lose them, we have to produce hard cash to prize them away. The money the players are on is not premiership money, how many of you would up root and re-locate for an extra couple of bob a week, not many I’m sure, so even when a team agrees to release a player, the player himself may not want to come. Its not as easy as a lot of posters are making out. My main feeling is that a few posters did not agree with Flynn’s initial appointment and are now happy to capitalise on the disappointment of many fans after the great start of the season. Its all much too premature, next season is when we judge, not this. A new man will want to change everything to his way, then it would be another two to three years rebuilding from scratch….. again. Of course you can feel free to agree with this posting or disagree even if you see fit. The JackArmy.net disclaimer is that your views have to be your own and in no way influenced by anything that you read in what I think is a pretty good posting even if I do disagree with the very last statement of it.
