After the first two encouraging performances since the departure of Flynn and Reeves this was back down to earth for the Swans as they succumbed to an easy defeat in truth that could have been more.

The Swans lined up as follows:

Freestone

Jones O’Leary Tate Byrne

Roberts Martinez Britton Coates

Connor Robinson

Huddersfield could have found themselves two or three goals up inside the first ten minutes as they found countless areas of space in the Swansea midfield and defence and only bad shooting kep the Swans in the game. Several chances were created by the home side but all to no avail as Swansea struggled to exert anything on the game.

Player of the season Andy Robinson hobbled off soon into the game holding his hamstring after an innocuous challenge on the left hand side of midfield and he was replaced by last season’s leading scorer, James Thomas.

Thomas won a couple of aerial balls during the remainder of the half but it was very fair to say that they were second best at all times and it was some surprise that the halfway mark arrived with the game goalless. This brought about talk that maybe it was to be one of those games that we may speak but the start of the second half soon dispelled that.

The first came after a mix up in the Swansea defence and it was Schofield lift the ball over Roger to send the 11,000 plus crowd (a surprising number looking at the stands) into uproar bar the section behind the goal being ‘defended’ by the Swans. It was 1-0 and even at that stage you would have believed there was no way back for the Swans.

But at 1-0 you just never know and although the hour mark was well past before the Swans managed an attempt at goal (it went wide) there was still a chance. A couple of desperate clearances from Roger prevented the home side adding to their lead but a second always looked more likely than an equaliser.

Time was running out as Huddersfield doubled their lead, Roger being rounded as he advanced and despite a late challenge from Swans man of the match Tate, the second goal was rolled into the empty net to seal the points for Huddersfield.

There was still time for them to add a third as an exquisite chip from the edge of the are gave Roger no chance and the scoreline was finally reflecting the way that the game had gone.

The final whistle was not far away to put the Swans fans out of their misery and give Huddersfield one of the most deserved three points of the season. Make no mistake they are not the best side that we have faced this season but we just simply were not in this game from the opening whistle.

In every department we missed out today and not for some time have I witnessed a Swans team surrendering with such apparent ease. Huddersfield simply took advantage of this and had the scoreline been more even the most ardent of Swans fans would have struggled to argue with it.

With the clocks moving forward their hour overnight thoughts naturally turn to summer and on displays like this it will be a busy summer of work at the Vetch with much for us to think about.

As mentioned above Alan Tate gets the Swans man of the match award in a very disappointing performance indeed.
