Sympathy For York?

Show Of Support For York?

Cast your minds back twelve months to ‘that’ Hull game and what you were feeling when we were 2-1 down and facing up to the possibility of losing football league status. Imagine how you would have felt then if people started to rub your face in it. That will be how York fans will feel if we do it to them this coming weekend. We know what they are feeling in a way but to a further extent we don’t. We saved our status in that game so we only know the elation of safety and not the feeling that you would have when you are for certain facing Conference trips to the likes of Margate and Forest Green next season.

Any fan that makes the trip south on Saturday should have our support and I, for one, would like to see the Vetch crowd rise to salute the players and management of York City and hope to see them back in the football league soon. There are, of course, other similarities between our clubs in that they have been saved by consortiums backed by their own supporter’s trusts. Had it not been for these consortiums then this match could conceivably not be taking place in this manner. We are two football clubs that have won the battles that they had to exist and on this basis, again we should be showing our support with York City and their supporters.

Come ten to five on Saturday night they know that football league matches will be a distant dream for the next twelve months and they have to face up to that. I guess they can take heart from those coming out of the Conference this season and know that they can bounce back but I also hope that we never feel what their supporters are feeling right now.

Looking at their Rivals site you can see the passion that they can create and the way that they responded to relegation on Saturday was magnificent. I do expect a decent number to turn out at the Vetch on Saturday afternoon and good luck to them. Maybe even a few of them could join a few of us for a pre match beer just to show them that we are behind them.

But please, and I do appeal to all Swans fans, don’t mock them in their misery. Yes there is such a thing as football banter but what they have succumbed to must be the worst thing that a football supporter could imagine bar of course a club ceasing to exist?

Let’s show these guys that we can be behind them and give everyone connected with York City a welcoming atmosphere of the nicest type on Saturday?
