Swans Target To Stay At Rovers? |
Austin was linked with Swansea yesterday when the Evening Post revealed that he was interested in a move to this side of the Severn Bridge. However, Atkins has assured Austin that he does have a future at the Memorial Ground despite spending most of last season on a month to month contract. Atkins told the Bristol Evening Post "I have already put something to Kevin, which he has agreed in principle, so I expect him to be with us for the start of next season. "He has had a history of injury problems and understands that it may be short-term to begin with. "But providing he comes through pre-season, we will then look at something longer term." Austin has been targetted by Kenny Jackett to fill the gap left at left back after the release of Michael Howard at the end of last season. However, the defender can also cover in the centre of defence meaning that he could potentially kill two birds with one stone if he was able to sign the defender who has also played for Leyton Orient, Lincoln, Barnsley, Brentford and Cambridge. However, whether the late interest from Jackett is enough to persuade him to move to Swansea is a different matter as he was very much in Rovers’ plans all of last season being virtually ever present in their campaign. Meanwhile, the last of Swansea’s opponents for next season will be confirmed tomorrow as Huddersfield take on Mansfield in the Division Three play off final. The losers will be the 24th and last club confirmed as division three status next season. Both play off finals to date have been decided by just one goal. |
