SWANS GET PROMOTED!!! |
Swansea will start life in the second division at the start of the 2004/05 season, not bad when you consider we finished 10th last season! The "promotion" has come about due to the "re-branding" of the current football league structure. From the start of the 2004/05 season, the old Nationwide League First Division will be called The Championship, while Divisions Two and Three will be renamed League One and League Two. Football League Chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney had this to say about the changes… "The Championship is a term steeped in the history of the League. It will place a new emphasis on its status, Not only is it a gateway to the Premiership, it is one of Europe’s leading league competitions, in terms of the standard of football, the stadia and the numbers of supporters attending. We want our games to become ever more attractive, not only to our core audience, but also to a new generation of youngsters on the brink of discovering the game. We also want a commercial audience to be encouraged to re-evaluate its perception of the League" So, just when you think it’s a quiet week for the Swans, we get promotion without having to kick a ball. Not bad eh? Roll on August 7th and our first game in Coca-Cola League Two. |
