WARD IS NEW KEEPER TARGET |
Former Coventry goalkeeper Gavin Ward looks to be high on Kenny Jackett’s list as the Swan’s manager looks to further strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign. 33 year old Ward, released by First Division Coventry City last month, started his carrer at Aston Villa and has also had spells at Cardiff, Leicester, Stoke, Bolton and West Brom. When quizzed about new additions to his squad, Jackett said ‘‘I am quite happy how things are shaping up, there is room for one or two more players and although I am expecting no signings this week, I am hopeful of something happening in the next couple of weeks. I am looking for a goalkeeper and I had hoped to bring in a left-sided defender. But even if I get those players here there are other options when you look at the loan market. That is an ongoing thing and will be assessed throughout the season” Jackett also refused to rule out the return of former Vetch Field defender Matt Bound. “Like I have said I am looking for a left-sided defender and Matthew Bound fits into that category. ‘I have signed Garry Monk but he is a versatile player who can play in the back four or in midfield. I would not say, therefore, that a move for Matthew is dead yet. It’s all about getting a balance in the squad” he added. How the Vetch Field faithful would react to the return of Bound remains to be seen, but the possible arrival of Ward is certainly positive news in what has been a very quiet week on the transfer front. |
