And Proof If You Ever Needed It |
Today though on of them exceeded the lowest level that he could sink to giving us the proof that quite simply the club should not speak to the person in question. It will come as no surprise that the ‘journalist’ (and I use the term loosely) concerned is Tony Rees, for a change reporting under his real name rather than one of the pseudonyms that he likes to use so often. Mr Rees reports in the quality paper that is the News of the World the bombshell news as to why Mickey Adams left the Swans after such a short period in charge. Dragging up news from the gutter from SEVEN years ago to line his own pocket – the same man who rescinded on an agreement to pay a certain amount into Roger Freestone’s testimonial fund in return for an ‘exclusive’ interview with the man. He never paid the amount promised but continues to make money of the back of the Swans by dragging the name of the club through the gutter. The content of the article is of no surprise and everything that we have read before but this pathetic excuse for a football writer can find nothing more interesting to write about than events from the past when the club was under the ownership of Ninth Floor who we all know didn’t give two hoots about the football club just the stadium that we now see being built before our very eyes. Personally if I were in the club’s shoes at the moment then I would look at this article and make the decision to blank the man in the future. The club don’t need people who have one agenda and are so shallow that they do not even have the ability to hide it. This is the same Mr Rees who at one of the meetings at the Patti Pavillion when Petty was here was overheard trying to convince a few Swans fans that Mike Lewis had the best interests of the club at heart. This is the level of person that we are dealing with. Just look at where Mr Lewis is now to wonder who are the people who really understand this football club. This is also the same Mr Rees who managed to cost one Swans player a two weeks wages fine during the Hollins era for mis-quoting the player after a defeat in which it was implied through this pathetic excuse for football writing that the player was blaming his team mates for the defeat when the quote actually stated that all the players didn’t perform at the game in question. Why then do we continue to talk to him. It has been done at football clubs before and it can be done again. Why talk to anyone that will only ever give you bad publicity? Root out the evil and the good will prevail or something like that anyway. If this is the way that Rees makes his living then good luck to him but why should us as a football club help subsidise that living when the only thing he is happy with is to rake up some sh t from the past that no-one cares about any more and everyone knew about anyway? Personally I don’t think he is worth the column inches that he takes up. Tony Rees (left) and Peter Nicholas at Roger’s Testimonial Dinner in October 2001 |
