Trundle To Northampton? Giraffe Time

Let’s remember first off that Lee Trundle has an agent. Quite a good one I seem to remember judging by how long it took us to snap him up last summer. Surely if someone was doing the touting of the player then the agent would be involved somewhere along the line. Managers pick up the phone and offer players but usually only if they want a player back in return surely?

Could Northampton be playing the old Silver Shield trick which was designed to sell season tickets. Reading the whole article it appears that they have not strengthened their squad this summer and because of that could it be possible that they are attracting some criticism from their fans over this lack of activity. What better way to appease them then to try and generate some thought amongst the support that they are actively looking for players and where better to start then with one of the division’s top goalscorers from last season. That should shift a few tickets if the fans start to believe that this is the calibre of player that they could be looking at for next season. And of course those fans may want to buy before the discount period on the season tickets is up.

Kenny Jackett has long since said that he is not now looking to strengthen his forward line and, despite the poor finish to the season, I believe there would be some backlash if he were to let Trundle go. If he did, or even wanted to, then it would be the biggest gamble that he had taken in his time at the Vetch and one that would have to pay off. I just cannot see that there is any truth in this story at all – whether our club are going to comment on it remains to be seen but in fairness if Northampton want to play games with their supporters then let them.

As I said earlier, the only time I could give this story credence would be if Northampton have someone that we would like to bring to the Vetch. But considering that wasn’t mentioned in the comments from Mr Calderwood then we have to assume that is not the case – or maybe he doesn’t want their fans to know that he may consider selling x player.

This is the silly season for football news and no matter what that conversation was about ( I suspect there was some sort of conversation over something) then it has been reported one way and not the other.

I expect Lee Trundle to don his Number 10 Swans shirt come August and hopefully start again the way he did last season as we bid for the promotion that everyone at Swansea craves for next season.

Onwards and Upwards.
