Austin To Sign After Medical |
Austin was targeted by Jackett a month back when it was revealed that he had only been offered a short term deal to stay with his current club Bristol Rovers. However, Ian Atkins was confident that he would remain with his side, telling the Bristol Evening Post "I have already put something to Kevin, which he has agreed in principle, so I expect him to be with us for the start of next season. "He has had a history of injury problems and understands that it may be short-term to begin with. "But providing he comes through pre-season, we will then look at something longer term." Jackett though did not give up and it appears that the lure of the Vetch and something more solid for Austin’s future was the deciding factor in the move to the Vetch Field. Speaking earlier this week: "He is coming back from holiday later this week and I intend talking to him again," Jackett told the Bristol Evening Post. "I’d say there’s a possibility we can sort something between us." The possibility now has become reality and providing that the injury problems referred to by Ian Atkins do not provide a stumbling block with the medical, Austin will don a Swans shirt on August 7th for the start of next season. The move for Austin, takes the squad number at the Vetch to 21, assuming that those offered deals at the end of last season sign them and now it would only be expected that we add a goalkeeper to the ranks for next season as an essential. Things are beginning to take place and with the players reporting back for pre-season training on 28th June, there should be every chance that we see the new arrival within the course of the next week to 10 days.
