Margetson To Remain At Cardiff |
With the offer on the table of a new deal from Cardiff, it seems almost certain that Margetson will now stay at Ninian Park in competition with new signing Tony Warner with the move meaning that there could be a swift exit for former Cardiff No 1 Neil Alexander. The news will be a blow to Swansea as they hoped to snap up Margetson to fill the vacancy left by Roger Freestone’s departure at the end of last season. Speaking in tonight’s Evening Post, Jackett said ”Martyn is a keeper in his prime and I think the next couple of seasons could be the best of his career. ”I believe he has been offered a new deal at Cardiff, but there are suggestions that he’s not pleased with what’s on the table. ”It’s not just about money and length of contract, I also think a lot will depend where he is in the pecking order at Cardiff. ”He got into the first team last year and did very well, but from what I can gather it is not clear at this stage whether he will still be a first-teamer next season. ”I think he is a very good keeper and, on top of that, he is settled in South Wales. The main thing is his ability, which would make him a great catch for us.” It now seems that Jackett will be forced to yet again look elsewhere in his search for a new keeper after previously missing out on Neil Cutler, who opted to join Stockport County instead. With the new season now just five weeks away that search will have to be stepped up at a time when Jackett would have hoped to have had his squad for next season pretty much finalised. |
