Oli Salvages Swans Draw |
Western Mail TRIALIST Dennis Oli took another big step towards earning a Vetch Field contract last night as Swansea City’s unbeaten pre-season campaign continued. The former Queens Park Rangers striker might have spent only 45 minutes on the pitch, but it was long enough for him to make another strong case for becoming Swans boss Kenny Jackett’s sixth summer signing. Oli ensured Swansea remain undefeated in five pre-season clashes with an equalising goal that earned the tourists a second successive 1-1 draw against Dutch first division opponents. And it was also his ability on the ball – not to mention the odd silky skill that might have made Swansea’s resident showboater Lee Trundle a little envious – that could convince Jackett he’ll be a more than useful addition to his revamped squad. Though they started this friendly with a flourish, and went on to dominate most of the first-half possession, Swansea fell behind on 16 minutes when home captain Misha Salden lofted a ball over the visitors’ defence and striker Regilio O’Niel beat keeper Brian Murphy with a delicate 18-yard chip. But the Swans drew level in the 38th minute when Oli diverted Leon Britton’s low drive from the edge of the area past keeper Marc Hogervorst. But Oli added his name to a lengthening Swans injury list after picking up an ankle problem during the game which could rule him out for a week. Swansea City: Murphy, Ricketts, Austin (Rewbury, 85), Tate, Jones, Britton, Fisken, Martinez, Robinson, Thomas (Pritchard, 79), Oli (Nugent, 46)Subs (not used): Gueret, Corbisiero Goal: Oli (38) |
