Will E Gerrit? He Already Has? |
The club announced this afternoon that both players had done enough to earn themselves a place in Kenny Jackett’s squad for next season with Gueret being the competition for Brian Murphy for the opening game of the season, now just 8 days away. Oli has scored three times in pre-season, including the equaliser in last night’s 1-1 draw in Holland and has attracted praise from Jackett, most notably after the 3-1 win over Worcester a fortnight ago. "He (Oli) scored a fantastic goal and caused them plenty of power with his power and pace" said Jackett after the forward man scored twice in a 3-1 win at Worcester. "I’ve got to ask myself, can Dennis settle outside London – it can be difficult for a lad to do that sometimes. But Oli possesses power and pace and will worry a lot of defenders." Clearly he has decided that Oli can settle outside of the capital and he will sign early next week. Gueret on the other hand always seemed favourite especially after Swansea released both Simon Rayner and Mark Ovendale in favour of Gueret. Again, speaking after the Worcester game, Jackett commented "I’m looking at Gueret’s performances in terms of the block fixtures that we now have. I don’t think it’s fair to judge a player over one game." But judging over five games is clearly possible and Gueret could well step up as the favourite to start the season between the sticks at the Vetch ahead of Brian Murphy who may have to make do with a place on the bench. Gueret is likely to wear the number 13 shirt for next season whilst Oli will most probably wear 19. |
