After Dinner Comedy Hour

Mike Lewis – a name that still strikes the wrong chords with Swansea fans is cropping back up again – this time with his talks as an after dinner speaker. After dinner horror show would be more appropriate.

That’s right, the man who near enough ruined Swansea City and who was then at the helm when Exeter had their well publicised problems which resulted in relegation to the Conference is now making a living through telling people all about his ‘career’ in football on the after dinner circuit. An advert placed on the spotonentertainment web site says that Lewis “has spoken at major sports related conferences both here and in the USA and is currently writing a biography based on his 29 years experience in the business of football.”

The site tells you that in Lewis you can get someone who can tell you

• Stories of his experience in football – including working with O.J.Simpson in America when he was commissioned to bring American Football to the UK

• Working as PR adviser to Al Fayed and Kevin Keegan at Fulham FC

• How Mike Lewis introduced Uri Geller to football

• The tale of the death threats received whilst Chairman of a Club

• Mike is available to speak at venues as diverse as Universities through to small, local football clubs

Of course these are just the things that Mike is prepared to tell you about, what he has conveniently not decided to talk about on this circuit is

• How he sold Swansea City for £1 to an Australian Businessman he knew nothing about

• How that sale almost resulted in Swansea City ceasing to exist

• How he told a group of Swansea City supporters that he was ready to employ heavies on the North Bank to give supporters a ‘slap’

• How he was questioned by the Fraud Squad of Devon & Cornwall Police in relation to his time as vice-chairman of Exeter City Football Club

• Tales of his arrest in May 2003 on suspicion of consipracy to defraud

• How he ignore police advice to drink in front of Swansea supporters soon after the sale of the club to Mike Lewis – appearing as if he was laughing in their faces

• How he banned a supporters group from sponsoring a game in October 2000, leaving some vowing never to return to the Vetch

Of course these are all subjects that Mike cannot talk about as he believes that he actually helped football somewhere along the way. The fact that he has a book coming out says it all and the fact that there, somewhere is a company prepared to publish that shows that sometimes people will publish any old sh t.

Mike Lewis is not a man who football should be proud to be associated with and his PR work at Fulham I am sure from memory involved being the programme producer at some stage or another.

I pity the people who hire this bloke as an after dinner speaker when the same site can offer you the services of people who have a genuine story to tell and one that never involved the police or ‘heavies’ being suggested for football matches.
