Jackett Misses Out

Swans manager Kenny Jackett could well be breathing a sigh of relief after the manager of the month award for League Two deservedly went to Yeovil manager Gary Johnson.

It has long been said that the award is cursed and that could be the final piece in the jigsaw that could see the Swans return to the top of the league for the first time in over 12 months if results go their way on the weekend.

A win for the Swans and anything less for Yeovil (home to Northampton) and Scunthorpe (away at Boston) will see the side top the table for the first time in 12 months – they lost the lead on September 30 last year.

Jackett’s side won 3 out of their 4 league matches in September, their only defeat coming at Yeovil who remained undefeated with 3 wins and a draw. Jackett was ‘highly commended’ by Sky Sports Chris Kamara but deservedly the award went to Johnson.

Speaking on Yeovil’s official web site, Johnson said

“Being awarded the manager of the Month is always a great honour, not just for myself but for the club as a whole,

“September seems to be a good month for me. I think this is my hat-trick of awards in September.

“I would like to thank my coaching staff, Steve Thompson, Maurice O’Donnell, Stuart Housley and Glen Schmidt, and also to acknowledge the players.

“They obviously play a great part and I am very proud of our squad at the present time.”

Yeovil in addition were the only side to register a goal against Swansea during the month and with performances like we have put in in the past 30 days it can only be a matter of time before the award returns to South Wales.
