Southend Keeper Crisis

Southend are searching for a new keeper ahead of the Swans visit this weekend with first choice Daryl Flahavan serving a ban for a sending off and reserve keeper Bart Griemink still a few weeks away from full fitness.

Shrimpers boss, Steve Tilson, confirmed that he will be looking to enter the loan market ahead of the game by saying on Southend’s official site “With Darryl suspended we will be looking to bring someone in on loan before Saturday’s match, we’ve made a few enquiries over the weekend and now we will have to wait and see what happens.

“We struggled to get cover on the bench a few weeks ago because no one wants to come to a club and sit on the bench when they are going to be doing that at the club they were already at. However, now we can offer first team football for at least one match we should find things a lot less difficult.”

Southend had to rely on Tes Bramble to take on the keepers jersey when they played Boston and Flahavan received his red card against Boston on Friday night although Bramble did a sterling job in a game that Southend won 2-1 to move up to 12th in the table.

It promises to be a tough test for the Swans despite that league position – Swansea have won just once in their last six visits to Root Hall – March 2003 saw Kevin Nugent and James Thomas net in a 2-0 win.
