Terry Alderton, comedian and TV presenter, who came on as substitute in Sky One’s ‘The Match’ on Sunday is available for selection against the Swans this weekend.
Alderton who was a first half substitute for Mark Bosnich in the game, has been called upon and this evening signed non-contract terms with Southend who have their two first choice goalkeepers unavailable for Saturday’s game.
Speaking on Southend’s official web-site tonight, Alderton said
“It’s amazing to have signed for the club I support, as people will be aware I was here as a youngster but football never really worked out for me and I took up comedy instead. It’s great that I can now come back and tread of the hallowed turf.
“Playing in the match last week will be nothing compared to being at Roots Hall. Southend is far bigger because three points could be at stake this weekend against Swansea. Hopefully I won’t be needed and Tilly will get someone in time but you never know.”
Southend though did play a friendly this afternoon against Hornchurch United and had Under-18 goalkeeper Nick Morgan in goal as they were beaten 4-1 by the Conference South side.
Swans fans will be hopeful that with one celebrity come goalkeeper and one Under-18 keeper that they add some goals to their goal tally on the weekend if either lines up against Kenny Jackett’s league leaders.
In fairness to Alderton he didn’t have a bad game live on Sky One on Sunday evening but then again he wasn’t exactly peppered with shots during the challenge game. Several good stops from the legends Robert Lee, Philippe Albert and Ian Wright have persuaded opposition manager Steve Tilson that he may be worth a shot in goals but only time will tell who will face our strikers this weekend.
