Anti Racism Week

The biggest ever series of anti-racism activities kicks off on Thursday, October 14th.

The Week of Action, organised by the Kick It Out campaign and supported by all football organisations and clubs, will run until Tuesday, October 26th. The campaign has been timed to coincide with Black History Month, celebrating the history and achievements of those of African heritage, and Ramadan, the most important month in the Islamic calendar.

All 72 Football League clubs will be organising events around their home matches during the campaign period. Anti-racism leaflets will be distributed, club staff will wear Kick It Out badges, announcements will be made over PA systems, anti-racism messages will be included in matchday programmes and playing staff will wear specially designed t-shirts to promote the campaign.

Lord Herman Ouseley, Chairman of Kick It Out, commented:

“The extended week of action provides evidence of the measurable success being achieved in kicking racism out of the game. The range and breadth of activities at both community and club levels are testament to the positive work going on in football, particularly by engaging meaningfully with communities traditionally excluded from the game.

“Our key message for this year’s week of action is for the need to fend off complacency and keep up the ongoing battle against prejudice and exclusion, through education and positive engagement.”
