1700 Back Cup Trip

The Swans will have a backing of at least 1700 supporters on Sunday for their FA Cup first round tie at Cheltenham. The tickets, which went on sale on Monday this week, have been in great demand with over half that number going in the two days that tickets were available to season ticket holders only. Just over 100 of the 1800 allocation remained earlier on today.

With an allocation of just 1800 it does appear as if the trip could sell out for Swans fans who will all be looking to see the first step on another FA Cup adventure.

The game was moved to a Sunday to avoid a clash with a meeting at Cheltenham racecourse and this has pushed the demand for tickets up with more Swans fans now free to make the relatively short trip into Gloucestershire for the game.

Cheltenham were the last side to score a goal at the Vetch when Gavin McCann – missing from the game on Sunday – scored a fluke/screamer ( delete as applicable) in the game back on 21 August which ended 1-1.

Last season the Swans reached the fifth round for the first time in over two decades before exiting at League One side Tranmere back on Valentine’s Day this year. Striker Lee Trundle has told the huge support that they can make the difference on the day

“If we want to progress in the cup we’re just going to have to deal with that. “Yes it’s disappointing not being at home because that can be a massive boost for us – teams don’t like coming to the Vetch and having to deal with our supporters. “But having said that, Cheltenham’s not that far away and hopefully we should have a big travelling support with us on Sunday. “We need them there, because they can play a big part for us even away from home.” he told the South Wales Evening Post.

Trundle was on target with a hat-trick the last time the Swans travelled to Whaddon Road which inspired a late comeback from 3-1 down to snatch all three points early last season.

“That was a pretty special day,” he added, “but I can’t see the same thing happening this weekend. “It’s the FA Cup and it’s going to be tight, although we go there believing we can win the game.”

Let’s hope we do!
