Swans fans have long since called for a midfielder to be added to their squad and there are now strong rumours that Kenny Jackett is expressing a strong interest in just that – or more precisely Rushden & Diamonds midfielder Andy Burgess.
23 year old Burgess was described by then Diamonds manager Brian Talbot as a ‘revelation’ when the Northamptonshire side won the third division title two years ago but he has been able to prevent their slide of the last two seasons which currently sees them just one place above the relegation zone after returning to the basement at the end of last season.
Burgess has made over 150 starts for the Diamonds since coming through the ranks at Nene Park and has 23 league goals to his credit. He has made 28 appearances this season with just one goal to his credit.
he was originally a left winger before Talbot played him in the centre during that championship season. Burgess did sign a new contract at the end of last season and the Rushden official site claimed that would end any speculation that he would move to a ‘bigger club’ – it appears not!
With the moves for Marc Goodfellow seemingly at an end it was inevitable that Jackett would set his sights elsewhere and Burgess it appears is at the top of that list marked ‘Wanted’ With the bonus of a cup replay, live TV and Radio coverage and a potential home 4th round tie, there should be some available รยฃ in the Vetch coffers which means that this time he may well get his man.
