Club To Answer FA Charge |
A deputation from Swansea City will head into England tomorrow to answer the FA Charge of failure to control their players following the bad tempered affair at Shrewsbury back in November which they lost 2-0, ending the game with just nine men. They will be joined by the Shrewsbury deputation who will answer the same charge. The good news from our point of view is that the hearing will be conducted by the English FA otherwise it would be extremely likely that we would be thrown out of the league faster than Cardiff City can sell players. Both Garry Monk and Andy Robinson saw red before half time in the game, with Monk eventually being hung, drawn and quartered in Cardiff as he was hit with an excessive ban for his part in the proceedings, causing him to have a lengthy period out over Christmas. Both clubs I would guess are likely to receive a fine as a result of the charge and it is believed that the FA have asked that Huw Jenkins receive the cane as well but their English counterparts are unlikely to agree to the request. It seems somewhat crazy to me that this has taken four months to come to a hearing and even more so when you see some of the actions from the country’s ‘giant’ clubs that go unpunished that are arguably worse including complete surrounding of the referee and Wayne Rooney’s eloquence lessons in discussions with referees. However, the Swans will no doubt take whatever punishment is handed out on the chin and move on with the process of working towards the hopeful goal of promotion this season. Meanwhile, yesterday’s News of the World reported that the Swans are likely to announce a six figure trading profit when they release their figures for the year ending May 2005. Despite the club’s failure to maintain it’s early season form, a FA Cup run that took them to the 5th round contributed to the profit meaning that they are at present the only Welsh league club running on a profit – something that you would not have backed three years ago when the CVA was being put in place and the club was more than a million in debt. Income this year around has also been boosted but the club have invested much of that extra income back into their playing squad in a bid to gain promotion.
