But We Do Create Chances |
Re : another excellent article after the Northampton game. I always agree with most if not all you say and I think you come from a similar way of thinking as myself. You are waiting for the "however" aren’t you… This paragraph – "It’s simple for me – we lose games because we are negative. I don’t mean by that we think "we’ll lose this" but because we sit back and let teams come at us. We play virtually a six or seven man defence and the three central midfield options we persist with most often are all naturally defensive players. Playing one of them is the right thing to do, playing two of them is wrong. And it needs to be addressed. We have to have someone in the central midfield area who will link with the attack and fill the gaping hole that usually exists between our attack and midfield. A simple push up to take the loose ball sometimes would be nice instead of seeing all these types of play result in the opposition coming back at us" Do you think we don’t create enough chances in a game? I personally think we do, and obviously we do that with the team on the pitch… and that includes our defensive minded midfield players. In the first half against Rochdale for instance we had the chances, ok, most of them fell to O’leary and i bet he kicked the dog all over the place later that evening, but we still carved them open a couple of times. In the second half, the first 20 mins we went at them, scored 2 and arguably should have got another 1 or 2. To me, we don’t sit back due to the midfielders, we sit back because we are desperate for the 3 points and are edgy about gambling our slender one goal advantage. It’s football nature, and you will well know, that teams defend leads. When the pressure is mounting what with some awful support this season, costly mistakes can happen. And you will also realise that when teams are losing they will gamble, push more players forward and force us back. Let me know what you think.
