Go White For The Vetch

Wouldn’t it be a fantastic sight if everyone wore as much white clothing as possible at the very last league game at the Vetch?

Newcastle United always play in front of huge black and white blanket at St James’s Park, Highbury becomes a sea of red and white when Arsenal are at home and blue is definitely the colour at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. Maybe it’s a Premiership thing because the Vetch certainly isn’t white when we play, but here’s our last chance to change that and to make April 30th a truly unforgettable day – let’s all go white for the Vetch.

Now I’m not for one minute suggesting that we should all rush off to to buy a Swans shirt, but there’s no real excuse for anyone to not wear something white. Obviously, if you already have a Swans shirt (old or new) then it has to be first choice but who doesn’t possess a white cotton shirt, white t-shirt, white vest or (for the ladies) a white blouse? Of the group of ten or so of us who regularly stand on the North Bank, not one of us owns a Swans shirt but we have all agreed to wear white for the Shrewsbury match. Admittedly, it’ll be a collection of Duran Duran frilly shirts, formal dinner shirts and Roger Moore safari suits but they’ll suffice.

It doesn’t matter that we are all in our 30s and 40s – if we can make this gesture then any Swans fan can.

I appreciate that the club is marking the occasion with several hospitality events but this idea provides the perfect opportunity for all Swans fans to make a bold statement. Not only would it make the day that much more memorable, but imagine the sight that would greet the players when they run out of that narrow tunnel for the very last time.

A sea of white.
