It was a cold day at the County Ground in Swindon for the thousands who made the trip from South Wales but for the main in the first half they were a very subdued crowd as both sides struggled to get any pattern of play established and a 45 minutes that was devoid of real goal mouth activity.

With Alan Tate and Kevin Austin suspended, Kenny Jackett’s options at the back were limited and his elected line up for the match read

Willy

Sam Izzy Monk Macca

Leon Roberto OTJ Robbo

Bayo LT10

Subs: Forbes, Murphy, Freezer, Thorpe, Connor

Swansea technically had a 12th man on the pitch in Andy Gurney but mysteriously he was allowed to play for Swindon as he completed his loan spell with his old club. Cries of “Thats why we let you go” rang around the Swansea fans as Gurney fired a first half free kick well wide.

Robinson had a couple of half chances first period to open the scoring but they were well dealt with by the Swindon keeper whereas a last minute goal mouth scramble saw OTJ injured in trying to prevent Swindon taking the lead. As the teams trooped off at the interval, OTJ was left to depart on a stretcher meaning the introduction of Freezer at the start of the second half.

And it turned into a half that Swansea pretty much dominated with Freezer adding a dimension so desperately missing in the first half – real width on the left hand side. Lee Trundle fell awkwardly under challenge from a Swindon player and was replaced by Forbes and Swansea seemed to up their game without the leading scorer.

Freezer hit the bar whilst Forbes had a low shot well saved after good work with Bayo in the Swindon area. Robinson had a late shot tipped over as Swansea pushed for the goal all second half but it would not come against a Swindon side who seem to have mastered the art of ensuring they don’t win.

Maybe at the end they should have snatched it with a couple of gilt edged chances but when you are near the bottom you miss them and they missed them

At the end it was all to no avail and it became four without loss in the league. January is now the key month with 5 of the next 7 league games at home and also the transfer window opening. We need to strengthen and where better to do it from then top of the league.

Happy New Year to Jacks everywhere – 2005 has been a good vintage.
