Holt has long remained Swansea’s main strike target with Jackett having been on his trail for almost twelve months since having an initial bid turned down. A further attempt in the summer proved fruitless with the two sides unable to agree a fee but now that has been done with a clause in Holt’s contract being met that means Rochdale can accept a fee and allow their leading marksman to leave. That fee has been agreed between the two clubs and the decision now rests with Grant as to whether he wants to join Kenny Jackett’s promotion chasers at White Rock.
However, having been stung before on previous deals falling at the last hurdle, Swansea are prepared to have a backup just in case and they ware still keeping a track on Swindon’s Rory Fallon who did so little to impress against the Swans last weekend. Fallon though has scored 13 goals in a struggling Swindon side this season meaning he has caught the eye of Jackett and he is ready to make a move should the deal for Holt not come through to fruition.
Jackett was quick to carry on his transfer activity on Monday after watching his side stutter to a second successive 0-0 draw and he knows he needs new blood if he is to continue a bid for a second successive promotion.
And whilst his dream very much remains to have Grant Holt at White Rock to partner Lee Trundle it could end up being Rory Fallon who fits the bill for him.
Grant Holt finds the ball firmly in his court and needs to make a decision pronto if he wants to be here.
