Swans Miss Out On Transfer Duo |
|
The lure of Championship football was too much for both Roger Johnson and Jay Tabb as they elected to join Cardiff and Coventry respectively snubbing Swansea into the bargain. Both were targets for the Swans this summer and both attracted bids from the Liberty stadium whilst financially the Swans claim that their package was worth more than either Championship club could offer. However, the promise of playing one flight below the Premiership was a deciding factor for both players in much the same way that Jason Brown preferred to play at a higher level despite the likelihood of less first team appearances. It’s difficult to apportion any blame to a player who wants to play at that level and it’s understandable that they both chose the clubs that they did – but also very frustrating bearing in mind how close we came to Championship football at the end of last season. Speaking in tonight’s Evening Post, chairman Huw Jenkins said "We’ve missed out on two players even though we were prepared to pay more than anyone else for them, "Financially we can compete with clubs like Cardiff and Coventry – we would have at least matched the wages too – but the lure of the Championship has beaten us. "Fair play to the players, they are taking the opportunity when it arises to move up a division or two. But for us it’s very, very frustrating." With the players already back in pre-season training and the first league game of the new season just over four weeks away it’s been a frustrating time for the club and one that they hope will change very soon. |
