Leacock Deal Falls Through |
|
Swansea City’s record summer signing Dean Leacock has returned to Fulham after his transfer surprisingly collapsed today. The Swans heralded the promising full back’s arrival from Fulham, for £375,000 and a three year contract, as a major cog in their summer transfer hunt. But today, a joint statement from Fulham and Swansea read, “Leacock’s move has fallen through after the two clubs and the player failed to agree all relevant terms of the contract”. Kenny Jackett was understandably disappointed that the transfer head collapsed, “Over the last few days we’ve had plenty of ‘tooing and froing’, but this morning we’ve had to make a decision. Dean Leacock is a very good player, he’s one that we’ve pursued and I’ve known about for quite some time. He is, in my opinion, a quality player but at the moment this deal is off”. Huw Jenkins was similarly disappointed with the news, “‘We are very disappointed how things have turned out over the last day or so. But sometimes things happen in football which are out of our control”. But he offered a gleam of hope to the Swans disheartened supporters as he added, “But I can guarantee the supporters that Kenny is looking to bring in one or two new signing within the next week or so”. One of those signings is likely to be trialist Andy Oakes who has been offered a one year contract to provide cover for goalkeeper Willy Gueret. The experienced goalkeeper, 29, is a free agent after being released by Walsall and would replace departed Brian Murphy as the Frenchman’s number two. |
