Chairman Huw Jenkins has urged the fans to get behind the team starting with tomorrow’s fixture against Tranmere at the Liberty Stadium.
Only just over 10,000 turned up ten days ago for the win against Crewe and with unrest increasing amongst the supporters there are fears that the first sub 10,000 for a Liberty league match could be looming large on the horizon. Whilst it is not expected to happen against Tranmere, Jenkins seems aware that attendances could drop and is urging fans to get behind their side
“We’ve all got to stick with the club,” the Swansea chairman said. “We have had a relatively good period over the last two or three years and there are always going to be spells of a few months every now and again where things do not go quite right. “It’s difficult to deal with when it happens, but we’re not always going to be winning games and playing well every week. “Football is all about ups and downs. “We’re aware of supporters’ disappointment and can’t hide from the fact that this year – the end of last season and the start of this one – we have not given them a lot to cheer at the Liberty Stadium. “But there’s still a long way to go this season and we’re hopeful that the consistency we’re looking for is not that far away.”
“Yes we anticipate we will get more than 10,000, but at the start of the season we have to be cautious and recognise that if things don’t go well, that won’t be the case,” he added. “We make sure things don’t get away from us by planning for fluctuating crowds.”
“We want to be getting between 15,000 and 20,000 fans in every week,” he added. “To do that we have to produce good, entertaining, winning football. “It’s my job, Kenny’s job and the players’ job to make sure Swansea produce something worth watching and, hopefully, that will come sooner rather than later.”
