Planet Swans ArchivesSwansea City have today reinforced their defensive line up with the capture of Republic of Ireland Under 21 international Marcos Painter from Championship club Birmingham City.
Painter joins on loan as cover for Tom Williams who will be out for a while with a hernia problem. He can play either left back or central defence.
He is described by the Swans official site as follows: –
The 20-year-old local product came through the club’s Academy system at St Andrew’s to make his first team debut against Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup in September 2005.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international made his Premiership debut three months later when he started against Fulham in a 1-0 win.
The six footer, renowned for his tough tackling, went on to start five games for the club as well as being introduced as a substitute in four others. The central defender or left-back signed a new three-year contract for Birmingham in the summer of 2006
”We’ve had permission to sign Marcos on an emergency one-month loan,” Jackett said. ”We’ve seen him play mainly in Birmingham’s reserves and he’s capable of playing either at left-back or in central defence. ”It was an area we felt we needed to strengthen after losing Tommy and, all being well, Marcos will join up with us on Thursday ahead of our game at Port Vale this weekend.”
