Molby; Royle Appointment

Jan Molby immediately ruled himself out of a Swansea return but looked for the Swans to do a Royle appointment with former Everton manager Joe his personal choice of successor to Kenny Jackett

“Joe Royle’s an experienced man, he knows the level and I’m sure he could fulfil Swansea City’s ambitions,” Molby told BBC Wales Sport.

He added: “It’s not just the Swansea job I’m not interested in, it’s football management in general.

Molby was one of the few who did ruel himself out with former player Dean Saunders, former manager John Hollins and Mark McGhee almost seemingly on the shortlist alongside Kevin Nugent who will take charge of the team at Doncaster.

Molby though although backing Royle also said that maybe the club may go for an up and coming manager

“It’s a very ambitious outfit and promotion is what they are after,” said Molby

“So they’re probably looking for a youngish manager with some experience – somebody between 38 and 45.

“There are one or two of those young managers available who have just left clubs at a higher level.

“If you look at the likes of Nigel Worthington who has just left Norwich and Kevin Blackwell who has left Leeds.

“There is also Phil Parkinson who managed Colchester before he moved to Hull and is now the assistant at Charlton.”

He added: “Dean Saunders is a favourite son down in Swansea and he’s done extremely well.

“He’s got good coaching qualifications, worked at the highest level with Graeme Souness at various clubs.

“Whether he’s ready or not? I think it would be a gamble.”

Chairman Huw Jenkins added “It should be the right person for the job and can carry on what Kenny has started and makes sure we are successful,

“We’ll look at all angles. There is a view we go for inexperience and gain enthusiasm and passion.

“Or we go for experience and see where that takes us. We’ll weigh all the options up and make a decision when we are ready.”
