Martinez Still Looking For Striker |

Why not visit our sponsors lounge With Bayo Akinfenwa out for the season, Swansea manager Roberto Martinez is still on the look out for a striker to give some competition to Trundle, Abbott and Chris Jones. All three strikers featured in Swansea’s 0-0 draw with Orient last weekend – the sides fourth blank in their last five home games and the need to start scoring goals is evident if the team are to claw their way back into play off contention. And that is why Martinez is considering a move into the loan market, possibly before the weekend game with Tranmere "With only two first-team strikers in Lee Trundle and Pawel Abbott available, we are skating on thin ice," Martinez said. "We do have Chris Jones, who needs to be involved with the first team on a regular basis because he is a good player for the future. "But it’s dangerous having only two senior forwards and getting some cover in could be important. "The problem is, of course, that everyone wants a striker who can score goals straightaway, and they’re not easy to find." "We need another striker, but it has to be a person who is ideal for us," he added. "Kevin Reeves has a big part to play along with myself and Graeme Jones. We are watching games to see who is in form right now, because that’s the most important thing. "We need someone to come in who is ready to go into our first team and perform. "We don’t want someone who could be a good player potentially – that’s for further down the line. "We may be looking at a young lad who is doing well but is not getting opportunities in the first team at a Premiership club. That would be ideal," The side created plenty of chances last weekend but some poor finishing and some good goalkeeping kept them at bay "We had 18 attempts, eight of which were on target, and with that many opportunities you would expect to score," Martinez added. "A main subject in training will be finishing, but we have to remember that if we play like we did against Leyton Orient, nine times out of 10 we will win." |
