With A Little Help……

Roberto Martinez has seen his new charges take an impressive 24 points out of 33 available in his time at the Liberty Stadium. That is promotion form in anyone’s book but he is aware that even taking that to 27 from 36 this Saturday may not be enough to secure his side a place in the end of season lottery that is the play offs.

And if that happens – the Swans will miss out with 75 points on the board – 4 more points than they managed last year which was enough to carry them all the way to the play off final.

A win on Saturday is needed to be coupled with the right result at Boundary Park for the Swans to sneak into the final race for promotion and a semi final against either Bristol City, Nottingham Forest or Saturday’s opponents, Blackpool.

"To be in with a chance of getting a tally of 75 points and still not being in control of our own destiny is difficult to take," conceded the Swansea boss to the Evening Post

"There are not many seasons where that many points will not get you into the play-offs at this level – we got there with 71 last year – but these things are not in our hands and we cannot worry about them. "We just have to worry about beating one of the form sides in the division in Blackpool and hope that we get a bit of luck. "Maybe the odds are against us, but in football anything is possible.

"Yes Chesterfield have been relegated, but everyone will still be playing for a contract or for their own career. "And Oldham need to win a game they are expected to win which can sometimes be hard. "All we can do is our job. "We need to beat Blackpool and then see if what happens at Oldham gives us a chance."
