Trundle Eyes Championship Dream |
|
Why not visit our sponsors lounge Lee Trundle knows that he wants to play at a higher level and he has set his sights on being there in twelve months time with Swansea as he looks to make it over 100 goals for the club at some stage in the next nine months. Trundle joined the Swans in the summer of 2003 from Wrexham and has been a total hit at the club with unprecedented image rights deal and a place in Swansea folklore. The goals have flowed at a very steady rate and he is slowly closing in on some of the top names to ever pull on a white shirt in the league table status. But despite all of that, Trundle has never played at a higher level than League One. A £750,000 bid from Sheffield Wednesday was turned down almost two years ago and, at present, the rumours that Bristol City are sniffing appear to be little more than that. But Trundle knows what he wants and that is to help Swansea into the Championship and it’s something very much at the forefront of his mind "It’s been questioned whether I can do it in the Championship, but I know that if I was at that level I’d do exactly what I’m doing now. When I was in League Two they always said I couldn’t step up. When I did they said I couldn’t make the next step up. "But when you’re in the Championship and doing well people in the Premiership will come in for you and have a different outlook. Until I test myself and prove I can play at a higher level the doubters will always be right." Time is not something that maybe is on Trundle’s side to meet his ambitions. He was a latecomer into the professional game and it’s something that also isn’t lost on him "It’s difficult playing another season at this level but it gives you more fire in your belly. I’m 30 now and this is the season we need to get into the Championship. That’s what I will be pushing hard for. "It’s a fresh start with Roberto’s first full season and we hope we can power towards an automatic place. The quality of our new signings will strengthen us and everyone’s confident we can be in the promotion mix." |
