It’s impossible not to feel despondent about the departure – Trundle has been a revelation during his time in Swansea and has provided some memorable high moments. Goals and skills were always on show and he scored twenty goals in four consecutive seasons which will never be forgotten in a hurry.

But the lure of Championship football was just too much for a player who will turn 31 in October and when Bristol continued an interest that has lasted most of the summer, the player decided that the chance was just too good to turn down.

It was the summer of 2003 and Swansea had just avoided relegation to the Conference when Trunds arrived at the Vetch Field – the lure of linking up again with former manager Brian Flynn was too much for him. A goal on his debut – a 4-2 win over Bury at the Vetch – was the catalyst for some magical moments which will never be forgotten by those that witnessed him.

Nobody will ever forget earning the wrath of Peter Jackson for ‘that’ shoulder roll against Huddersfield, exploding the Vetch into madness with a late winner against Preston, lobbing Chris Weale from the best part of 40 yards against Yeovil, an incredible hat-trick against Cheltenham and a sensational goal against Carlisle at the Millennium Stadium. And that is just a handful of moments from what has been pretty much four years of magic.

And it is that kind of magic that Bristol City fans now have to look forward to and Swansea will have to start the post Lee Trundle era in earnest on their tour of Holland. All good things must come to an end and this was a good thing – in fact it was one of the very best things.

Good luck Lee, you have earned your chance and you deserve it and I, for certain, will never forget what you gave to us. Thanks for the memories.
