Defender Amankwaah signed from Yeovil Town by Kenny Jackett for £200,000 in July 2006, he is a right back who can also play at central defence. He struggled to become a first team regular at Bristol City; he then had loan spells at Torquay, Cheltenham and Yeovil before signing permanently for the Glovers. He has struggled in his time at the Liberty Stadium; he has had a lot of criticism from fans last season as he is often out of position and often miss-times tackles. He has had his own trouble with injuries, never consistently playing and often in and out of them team, he will find it difficult to get his place back in the team next season with the signing of Angel Rangel.
