Barcelona Defender At Liberty |
|
Fernandez has never played a first team game for the Catalan giants but accepts that it is hard to break into the side at somewhere like Barcelona and could be ready to move to Wales to further his career. He could become the latest foreign import at the Liberty – Dorus De Vries, Ferrie Bodde, Angel Rangel and Bussy Mayol all arrived this summer as foreigners. Fernandez could feature for the reserves who take on Bristol City at Port Talbot’s Remax Stadium this evening and, if his move becomes permanent then he could give some much needed cover at the back, where many believe Swansea are at their weakest "It’s harder to bring players in (from abroad) after the season has started, because in pre-season you have a chance to work with them and give them a taste of what is required," said Martinez, "When the season has started you have to be more careful, but when a player of Josue’s quality is involved it can be worth doing. "He is a young lad who has never left Barcelona and he wants to see how he feels. "It would be a mistake for us to force him to do something he doesn’t want, so we’re having a look both ways. "We’re seeing if Josue wants to be part of things here and also if he can bring something we haven’t got to the squad."With potentially Fernandez in his squad – Roberto would have three left sided defenders in his squad, all of whom could play centre half if needed. It is too early to speculate over whether he will sign but any player with a Barcelona pedigree must have something about him and with Angel Rangel maybe giving us an indication of what to expect, it’s naturally to be very hopeful over the potential new acquisition.
