Martinez Still Wants Moore |
It’s the name that won’t go away and manager Roberto Martinez is admitting that he is still keeping tabs on Derby defender Darren Moore as he prepares for a return to league action tomorrow night with the visit of Carlisle. Moore has been on the Spaniard’s radar all summer and it’s not someone he has given up on despite reports of wage demands and of course the small matter of Moore starting Premiership games this season. But, speaking to the Evening Post, Martinez said “These things are not as easy as they look, and you have to remember that Darren Moore has played Premiership football this season and has a Premiership contract “It’s going to be hard for him to drop to League One, but in football personal situations change from day to day. “I am sure (manager) Billy Davies at Derby would love to hang onto Darren Moore for as long as he can because he is a leader and you need people like that when things aren’t going your way, so we will just have to sit tight. “I don’t think we will stop the speculation and we just have to go along with it “When you consider we have lost Izzy Iriekpen and Steve Watt, centre-half is probably the only position where we haven’t got that strength in depth. “But as I have said all along, we will only bring someone in if it is the right player. If that player is not available, we will keep working with the ones we have already got and it will be down to them.” Martinez was keen to recruit a new face ahead of the visit of Carlisle and it is widely said that one of the reasons for calling off last week’s trip to Cheltenham was to get a new face into the squad. Rumours this week have also linked the club with Stoke’s Clint Hill but Martinez stressed that he was not about to get in anybody, it has to be the right person “If we can’t get the right one, we’re not going to push things,” he added “It could happen tomorrow, it could happen in a few months when the transfer window reopens. “But all the speculation is not going to help us beat Carlisle and it’s important we focus on that because it’s a massive game for us.” The loan window is currently open for new loans and will remain so until November 22, whilst the transfer window opens again on January 1.
