Roberto Hails Swans Comeback

Roberto Martinez was a proud man at the way his Swans side came back late on to snatch a victory against Carlisle at the Liberty Stadium.

Late goals from Darryl Duffy – his first of the season – and Paul Anderson gave the Swans a 2-1 win when it appeared they were heading towards another demoralising home defeat.

“It’s a real test of character when you go behind like we did,” said Martinez after the game. “We all know there are huge expectations at this club and that can work against you in a situation like that.

“But I was really proud of the way the fans and the players reacted. The players kept on playing, they stayed patient even though they were trying to break down a side with 10 men behind the ball.

“And the fans stayed with them. If there was some frustration you could understand it because we are all human, but I didn’t notice it if there was.

“Carlisle were very effective on the counterattack and played very well so we had to put on a complete performance to win the game.

“Every team coming to our ground will make it hard for us to break them down but we have shown that we can do that.”

His opposite number Greg Abbott obviously had opposite emotions after believing he was heading towards a win for the Cumbrians We knew they would look pretty, but they never hurt us." he said

“In the end they were forced to throw everyone forward leaving just three at the back.

“Our game plan was to let them have the ball and hit them on the break and after 80 minutes it had worked a treat.”
