Warren Feeney claims he tried to hard on his first Swans start on Saturday and is ready for action again against Swindon as he tries to impress his temporary employers.
Feeney was subbed during the second half of the disappointing 0-0 draw with Brighton and replaced by Paul Anderson but it was in little vain as the Swans struggled to break down a dogged Brighton side.
Speaking in today’s Western Mail, Feeney said “I’ve come here to play football and play games and hopefully, done enough to keep my place in the side
“I thought I did okay, but I know I can do better. I think I was trying too hard to make an impression.
“I wanted to start well and I’m desperate to do well here. I know I need to sharpen up on one or two aspects of my game though, but that will come with game-time.
“It was the first game I’ve played in a few months and not playing regularly does catch up with you. Hopefully I can get a run of games now as you need that to find your feet at any level. I’d like to think I’ve done enough to start tonight and I’m hoping the manager thinks the same.”
Feeney has not scored a competitive goal in the league since January and that is something he wants to rectify as well as hopefully keeping hold of his own boots – they went missing before kick off on Saturday meaning Feeney had to borrow a pair
“I’m not sure where they went, but it meant I had to use a pair of boots which had blades and I wasn’t used to that,” he added.
“I’m not blaming any mistakes on my part on that, but that was certainly not what I wanted to happen. I kept losing my footing so I will make sure that won’t be the case again.
“I know I haven’t scored for a while, but I have full confidence in my own ability
“All I need is a decent run in the team as it’s hard when you’re in and out of the side. I feel once I get that next goal I can go on a nice little run and get on a roll.
“Any goal will do for me. I’d take a 30-yard screamer, a close-range tap in or one that bounces off my head.
“Goals are goals and I think there are some around the corner. “
