Squad Talent Praised

Swansea manager Roberto Martinez was, as you would expect, totally delighted with his side’s 5-0 destruction of Leyton Orient on Saturday when he was interviewed post match.

A tough test was what the Spaniard predicted but a four goal second half showing crushed the morning leaders on their own patch and moved the Swans up two places to fourth – just two points off the league one summit.

Tom Butler was on target in each half whilst Darren Pratley, Paul Anderson and Warren Feeney contributed to the rout that dropped the hosts down to second place in the table.

“We carried on where we left off against Swindon on Tuesday,” said Martinez. “We showed the same determination and unity and that allowed our talent to shine.

“At half-time I reminded the players that they needed to stamp their authority on the game and be themselves a bit more.

“It is difficult to come to a top of the league side and do that. But that’s what we did.

“We got off to a great start with Tom Butler’s opener. It was a fantastic goal. Tom is a player who is exciting to watch and his ability with both feet makes him something very special.

“But there’s still a long way to go though. We have to keep working and when some of the players return from injury, we’ll have a very strong and competitive squad all fighting for places.”

Martinez now prepares his squad for a home game in the Paint Pot trophy on Tuesday night against Wycombe before embarking on a trip to Bournemouth a week today for their next league challenge.
