Roberto Martinez is celebrating his first managerial award after he was announced as the winner of the League Managers Association performance of the week for his sides 5-0 away win at Orient and the 4-1 away win at Bournemouth.

The announcement on the League Managers web-site said: –

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award should go to Swansea City following their amazing 5-0 win way to high flying Leyton Orient in Coca-Cola League One on 6th October 2007, a result that was followed by another away success 4-1 to AFC Bournemouth the following Sunday.

Manager Roberto Martinez will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to be screened on Sky Soccer Saturday on 20th October 2007.

Two goals from Thomas Butler helped Swansea to a crushing win over the league leaders.

Paul Anderson set up the in-form winger for the opener after just five minutes, Butler firing past Leyton Orient keeper Stuart Nelson from 25 yards.

Darren Pratley volleyed the second from long-range moments after the break then Butler’s fine show and go cleared the way for his low shot hit past Nelson.

The outstanding Anderson sneaked another low shot in, and Warren Feeney turned in the fifth in the last minute.

Manager Martinez thought that the result reflected the quality within his squad.

“We carried on where we left off against Swindon the previous Tuesday.

“We showed the same determination and unity and that allowed our talent to shine.

“But there’s a long way to go. We have to keep working and when some of the players return from injury, we’ll have a very strong and competitive squad all fighting for places.”
