Owain Tudur Jones will be allowed to return from Welsh duty to take his part in his first Swansea game for twelve months against Yeovil on Tuesday night. Victory for the Swans will take them into the southern semi finals of the Johnstones Paint Trophy and leave them just three games from an appearance at Wembley.
It was just over 12 months ago that Tudur Jones last appeared for the first team in a 4-2 victory over Bournemouth at the Liberty Stadium and there were fears in the Swansea camp that he would miss the game after being called up by Wales.
But those fears have been allayed with news that OTJ will not feature in either qualifier for Wales and has been called up just for experience. It is also understood that he will leave the squad to play in Tuesday’s game before returning after the game to be with them again.
A source close to Wales manager John Toshack said “Owain has only been playing reserve team football so there is no way he can make the step up to play the Republic and Germany.
“He’s one of the new boys and Tosh called him up so he can get a flavour of life with the Welsh squad. Tosh wants him to meet the other players, train with them and get to know them. Swansea are keen for him to play on Tuesday and that is fine with us. Tosh will release him for the Yeovil tie and Owain will rejoin us after that game.
“Swansea is only half an hour down the road from the Wales hotel, so it’s not a problem. Owain needs all the matches he can get now. There’s no point him sitting around the hotel on Tuesday night”
