Two points from the last nine available is hardly promotion winning form but Roberto Martinez remains optimistic as ever as he looks at the stats and knows that the results will come sooner rather than later for his side – who look to return to winning ways at Tranmere this afternoon.
After a great run of form, Swansea have come off the rails a little in recent weeks with two draws and last Fridays home defeat to Huddersfield being the sum return from the last three games but it could be a fifth away sucess at Tranmere this afternoon for the Swans.
However, far from being downbeat Roberto talks up his team as you would expect him to do ahead of the game against one of the sides tipped early season for promotion but like the Swans looking in from the outside rather than setting the pace “When I look at the stats what pleases me is the chances we have created,” said Martinez in the Western Mail.
“We just need to get that clinical finishing into our game. We know that if we want to be successful we have to improve at home, but I want us to carry on with the same standard away from home.
“When you go to Prenton Park you know they are always going to be a strong, experienced and solid side,” said Martinez, who marked the early days of his managerial reign last March with a 2-0 win at Tranmere.
“But they have changed a few players and the way they were playing last season. That’s going to take a little bit of time, but I see them as a top-six candidate.
“It’s great to see when managers want to play a bit more football in this league.”We know that if we switch off for a second against them they will punish us.”
