Dorus De Vries is expected to overcome his injury worries and start in the FA Cup against Horsham on Friday night.
De Vries hobbled off at the end of Tuesday night’s win over Hartlepool at the Liberty Stadium and there were doubts over his fitness for the Swans date with the Sky TV cameras. And it capped as well as bad night for the Swans with back up keeper David Knight ruled out for three weeks after damaging ankle ligaments in the warm up.
The pair of injuries prompted Roberto to have discussions about an emergency loan keeper – any move on that front would have to be completed by midday tomorrow according to the Evening Post.
But Dorus is now expected to be fit and should take part in a training session tonight (Thursday) in preparation for the game tomorrow night. “At the moment our two keepers are injured, but we are going to see how Dorus looks after training today,” said the Swansea boss in Thursday’s Evening Post.
“He was very sore yesterday and we can’t be sure how he’s going to react, but I’m optimistic he’ll be ready for Horsham.
“We would be able to get an emergency loan even though the window is closed and I am keeping my options open.
“But at this stage I don’t think we’ll need to go into the loan market because I know how quickly Dorus recovers.
Roberto was, as ever, full of praise for the keeper he prised from Dunfermline in the summer, adding “I don’t think it surprises us anymore when Dorus makes great saves because he has shown he is capable of doing it week-in, week out
“He put in another great performance against Hartlepool, but I know he will go back to the training ground and try to keep on improving with (goalkeeping coach) Inaki Bergara.
“Dorus is a winner and that’s the mentality he has got.
“I certainly wouldn’t swap him for anyone else.
“He is only 26, he is full of enthusiasm in training every day and he has fantastic power in his lower body.
“He can play as high as he wants to in the future.”
