Reports yesterday emerging from Derby quoted Adam Pearson as saying that the Swans had moved the goalposts forcing Derby to pull out of their pursuit of the Swans midfielder that has gone on for most of the summer.

And the paper also suggested that Pearson had told them that the Swans had asdked for £2.5m for the player who cost them a fraction of that when they purchased him from Den Haag last summer.

But it is that part of the reports that Jenkins has reacted to and he said “He is our player and he will be until we decide to accept someone's offer

“It's not true to say we've asked for £2.5m. We've never asked for anything for Ferrie because we don't want to sell him.” added Jenkins.

“We've never talked about an asking price, we've only said that we value Ferrie at around £2m.”

And that is something that certainly seems to confuse Derby.  If I were selling a car that a valued around £2500 would I accept an offer of 75% of that with further payments assuming it drove a certain number of miles or made a certain city on a tour of the UK?   I doubt it.   I would accept £2500 or pretty damned near to it anyway.

Jenkins is carrying on his game of Poker and clearly testing Derby's desire to get the player at the moment.  We know Ferrie wants to go and I suspect we have accepted that.  What we don't know yet is Derby's limit.   They pulled out of the race yesterday but they have done that before so it was a meaningless gesture to many.

Jenkins added “We hope the saga's over.

“I'm pleased to hear that Derby have pulled out of the running to sign Ferrie.

“We have said all along that we want to keep him and we hope this will be the end of the saga.

“I've said previously that the whole situation is no good for anyone and I would love this to go away.

“Whether that happens will depend on Ferrie knuckling down and concentrating on preparing for the new season with us.”

And do we really believe this is over?   I suspect not.
