Huw Jenkins wasted no time in dousing out the rumour flames that said Ferrie had not head to Sweden on Sunday with the squad because he was on the verge of signing for Derby County.
Rumours surfaced on Sunday that Ferrie had not travelled with the rest of the squad with 'reliable sources' claiming that this was because
- he had refused to travel because of his demands for a move
- he was in Derby discussing the finer details of a move
Both of which prove to be totally unrealiable with the Swans stating that he is back in Holland for family reasons.
And, as the saga draws on it does seem more likely that there could be a deal to be struck between the Swans and the player rather than any potential suitor. What nobody knows in any depth is what is being said behind closed doors at the Liberty Stadium between the club and the player and we also know that much of the speculation has been fuelled from the Derby end certainly some of it from an agent potentially more active than he should be.
From the Swans point of view, Ferrie has been training with them for the last week and reports from the camp are that he is as focused on his football as he ever has been. He has distractions off the pitch with this speculation but that appears to be coming slowly to an end and him joining up with the squad is the first indication of that.
Huw Jenkins is quoted in the Derby paper as saying “It's not significant at all that Ferrie hasn't travelled. He will be out in Sweden on Tuesday
“It's very simple. He has got a few things to sort out to do with his kids in Holland and then he will be following the rest of the squad over to Sweden. He agreed that with Roberto.
“It's got nothing to do with Derby or anyone else. He said there were a few issues he needed to sort out and we were happy to help him.”
There is a chance that part of those issues could be his future in terms of clearing his mind as to what he wants to do and I suspect at this moment in time that there is a better than even chance that Ferrie could be in the line up against Charlton on August 9.
Adam Pearson told the Derby Telegraph “From a formal point of view, we have withdrawn our offer.
“It was a very high offer, a good offer for a player who at this stage has only played in League One but obviously has ability to play at this level.
“We have withdrawn the offer and the only way that scenario would change is if he was put on the transfer list or Swansea were actively looking to sell him.”
On the plus side, the transfer window closes in 54 days……
