And he has promised to do it in style by admitting that his side do not have it in them to play defensively and anyone who has watched his team in the 18 months he has been in charge will admit that with a brand of flowing football not often seen in South Wales.
Roberto successfully led his side to the League One title last season with 92 points and 82 goals in the process and today the Swans will undertake their first second tier match since 1984 when they were relegated from the then second division.
And it's a moment that couldn't come quick enough for the players, management and fans and Roberto told the Western Mail: “This sort of test is the best way to start our season
“We will get a lot of teams like Charlton this season.
“They are a team that hasn’t been outside the Premiership for long, so it’s going to be a huge test.
“They are very strong at home and, as a football club, they are better than Championship level.
“It’s a difficult start, but, for one reason or another, every team in this division is going to be tough. It’s more about how we adapt and gel as a squad anyway.
“We know it’s going to be a very strong competition. But we are looking forward to it because it’s going to improve us as a squad and as individuals.
“I don’t think it’s in our make-up to play defensively and we don’t have the players to do it.
“We still have to adapt to a new division. But, with the quality we have got, we hope it’s going to be quicker than anyone would expect from the outside.
“It would be foolish to predict how we will finish,” he said. “At the moment we want to be competitive and try and match whoever we play on the day.
“But we have a few new faces and we need time to gel. We need to see where we are in February or March, then we can think about aims for the end of the season.
“Our challenge this season is to make people realise who we are.
“We did things in League One not many people expected last season.
“We competed against clubs like Nottingham Forest and Leeds, who were miles ahead in terms of facilities and budgets. We need to do the same again this year.”
