The Swans slipped to an opening day defeat thanks to a 3rd minute goal from Mark Hudson and an 85th minute second from Andy Gray.

However, most in attendance were happy that the performance was encouraging and that there was much to look forward to and the manager did not disagree as he said after the game: "Today's performance was more important than the result – as it was at Oldham on the opening day of last season

"I can certainly take a lot more positives than negatives out of the performance.

"We controlled the tempo, dominated possession and created the most chances, 14 in total.

"Mentally everyone in the dressing room is disappointed and hurt. And, yes, we have to improve, but we can take a lot out of that performance.''

Roberto was still disappointed though in the manner his side conceded defeat to two set-pieces

"The two goals we conceded were very soft and not good enough,'' he added."We would have never won the championship last season if we defended like that.

"The boys know the quality in the Championship is higher and they can't afford to switch off. But it's only the beginning of August and it's a lesson learnt.

"Keeping the ball and creating chances are the hardest things in football and we did that, so I'm not concerned about conceding goals from set-pieces. We can sort that out."
